With today’s hectic lifestyle most of us do not have the time to eat properly. Meal times are very often a hectic rush job fitting around work / family etc. Many people nowadays either rely on convenience food or junk food or simply comfort eat to make themselves feel better and then end up giving themselves a hard time over it. If you eat the wrong foods then your body gets the wrong type of nutrition for energy. The results can be that we tire very quickly and we may also find ourselves having things like very poor concentration and we may become irritable. We most certainly become very poorly motivated to engage in any aerobic exercise, such as digging the garden, household chores, or going for a brisk walk for example, because we are just too tired to exercise. So the benefits of being at your ideal weight are many fold.
Many people who are overweight and battle with managing their weight can also develop psychological problems because of being overweight or obese. For example: low self-esteem; poor self-image (not liking how you look); low confidence; feelings of isolation. These feelings may affect your relationships with family members and friends and, if they become severe, may lead to depression.
The true cost of Diets
Many of us resort to diets and every New Year’s resolution normally has "weight loss" right up there at the top of the list. The Dieting industry is a multi million pound money spinner, Why? Because many people are just not very good at sticking to a diet! And that is the plain truth of it! Our will power seems to vanish as quickly as the enthusiasm we had to start the diet in the first place. Astonishingly a little research on the internet shows that in one study that during a lifetime, British women are likely to spend a whopping £25,000.00 on diets. The study included three thousand women and found that on average they ran up the costs of over £150.00 each time they went on a diet. Additionally the study shows that a high percentage of women start three diets a year totalling an annual spend of over £450.00. Based on the figure of £450.00, over a lifetime of say fifty years the figures mount up to a huge figure of £22,500.00. Add to this the costs of say belonging to Fitness clubs, gyms, buying slimming DVD programmes, books, magazines, smaller size clothes, then perhaps bigger size clothes, Special dietary supplements etc, It is not too difficult to realise how the study came to those astonishing conclusions. How much better would it be then to pay a fraction of that cost and make life changing changes in just a few sessions that will leave you knowing and feeling that you are completely in control of your body weight and eating patterns by changing the way you think about food , eating and exercise? Not just for a few months, but for a lifetime. All because the process of Hypnotherapy can break old destructive patterns permanently.
The risks of being overweight

What are the health risks of being overweight?
If you are overweight or obese, from day to day you may:
- Feel tired and lacking in energy.
- Experience breathing problems (for example, shortness of breath when moving around, or not being able to cope with sudden bursts of physical activity like running across the road).
- Feel that you sweat a lot compared with other people.
- Develop skin irritation.
- Have difficulty sleeping.
- Get complaints from your partner that you snore.
- Experience back and joint pains which can affect your mobility.
You may also have an increased risk of developing:
- Impaired glucose tolerance (pre-diabetes).
- Type 2 diabetes, which often leads to serious health issues.
- High cholesterol or triglyceride levels.
- High blood pressure.
- Coronary heart disease.
- Stroke.
- Sleep apnoea (this is when your breathing patterns are disturbed while you are sleeping, due to excess weight around your chest, neck and airways).
- Fertility problems.
- Complications in pregnancy (including an increased risk of high blood pressure during pregnancy, diabetes during pregnancy, pre term labour, Caesarean section).
- Stress incontinence (leaking urine when you are, for example, laughing, coughing, etc).
- Gallstones.
- Cancers (including colon, breast and endometrial (womb) cancer).
- Gout.
- Fatty liver.
Most people overeat for a reason and part of weight management therapy is in identifying the deep seated root cause
Some of us will know why we overeat, but most will not.
We don’t just eat a well-balanced diet to maintain our bodies. We may be eating to satisfy an emotional need such as dealing with stress or boredom; believing we will feel better if we eat to give us comfort, or we may be satisfying cravings that appear to drive us irrationally.
Some people who may well have border line medical issues such as diabetes can respond to this craving by finding that they need frequent bursts of sugar to keep their energy levels up when they come crashing down.
Either way the end result is the same, the risk of full blown diabetes becomes even more likely to develop and the accumulation of the extra calorific intake results in the pounds piling on with all the long term associated health risks that go with it. Typical symptoms of being overweight are shortness of breath as the extra weight adds extra load on the cardiovascular system, tiredness and fatigue and difficulty concentrating when fatigued. Frequent aches and pains that make mobility difficult and uncomfortable which gets much worse with age. Back ache and hip problems also come hand in hand with being overweight and also the risk of developing arthritis as does the risk of developing osteo arthritis in the knees
Most people have a reason they overeat even if they don’t know it and the therapist’s role in aiding successful weight management treatment is in uncovering what that reason is in order to understand the motivators and to find the right strategies to treat the client with.
The Good news
The good news is that hypnotherapy has been used to help countless thousands over many years to lose weight and stay at their ideal weight too.
Hypnotherapy bypasses your conscious mind and allows the hypnotherapist to speak directly to the subconscious part of your mind which is where all thinking habits and behaviour patterns are formed, some of them not so good, which is why you ended up with a history of overeating or comfort eating!

NB. The slim via hypnosis 1+4 programme is aimed at people who have a modest amount of weight to lose, for e.g. up to 2-3 stone and who have a history of tending to repeatedly yo –yo diet or who just find they simply are stuck with their weight loss and exercise routines and need help changing their relationship with food, drink and exercise.
If you have a large amount of weight to loose and a BMI of 35 or over then Virtual Gastric Band Hypnotherapy may be more appropriate for your needs.
Also please be aware that during the consultation that it sometimes becomes apparent that there are underlying issues which come to the surface which would be advised that they need working with, which are outside of the scope of the slim via hypnosis 1 +4 sessions.
The issues could be varied, for example, emotional eating because of circumstances such as bad relationships, poor self confidence, low self worth, stress, anxiety etc. These will need to be worked on and are of course optional.
However if a client chooses to decline the advice given it is entirely possible that the results of slim via hypnosis could be diminished or even temporary as it is akin to treating a wound which needs dressing with a sticking plaster. Any additional underlying issues which need working with are recommended to be resolved through whatever therapy sessions are necessary before carrying out the main weight loss programme.
